Are Raw Organic Cacao (cocoa) Beans a Cure, Treatment, or Nothing To a Type 2 Diabetic?
Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at 1:32PM When I found out I had Type 2 diabetes, I was so shocked. I came to my physical that year stoked since I had lost 100 pounds following Yoga Conditioning for Weight Loss by Susan Deason. (This was my introduction to yoga and I did the workouts every other day. I still keep this workout in rotation to do once per week.)
That should have been great news since I was lightening the burden on my system…wrong!
After my blood test results were analyzed, my doctor informs me that I have high blood sugar and I should monitor it weekly…yada yada blah blah blah
Great, just great. Ok, what did I miss?
Probably carbs since I stayed as far away from them as possible that year but I really don’t know and I have had to take metaformin ever since. I tried to stop taking it since I do take a great deal of vitamins for blood sugar but it hasn’t helped.
My experimentation has led me right to the raw food level. Acai, blueberries, goji berries, and my favorite chocolate. I would not have spent a lot of time concentrating on chocolate until I saw a product known as Xocai. Please don’t leave. I am not selling it and I am not going to make any claims right now. I even created a recipe (below) so you can make a raw Chocolate superfood yourself.
FYI, according to TheRawFoodWorld.com,
The raw cacao bean is one of nature's most fantastic superfoods due to its wide array of unique properties, many of which are destroyed or corrupted by cooking."

Food Of The Gods - Theobroma Cacao
'Food of the Gods,' is the literal translation of the name aptly given to everyone's favorite food chocolate! A treasure of vitamins, minerals, beta-carotene, zinc, chromium and magnesium, raw chocolate is a delight for the senses and food for the mind. New research has shown cacao contains more antioxidant flavonoids than blueberries, red wine and green tea. We use only the premium Criollo variety of cacao.
But I intend to test Xocai, which is a combination of raw organic cacao and acai, over the next 30 days instead of using my metaformin. If the claims are correct I should see completely normal blood sugar levels. I will also test their claims that I will lose some weight from it’s usage.
The real result will come when I stop using the product in 30 days. How long will it take for my blood sugar levels to return to a diabetic level or will my diabetes be gone for good. Xocai’s price prevents it from being a reasonable substitute if it is nothing but a natural diabetic manager yet if the treatment erases the diabetic levels that metaformin says I can live with and keeps them in the non-diabetic range 100-125 then it will still be a success. I will keep you posted on my progress.
I wont be buying Xocai until the weekend and not starting it until next week sometime so I got impatient and went to my local Vitamin Shoppe and bought Raw Cacao Nibs and a coffee grinder and came up with a raw organic chocolate truffle on my own.
This recipe is really simple and produces a fine quality raw chocolate. The photo below was a batch I made by hand incorporating the cacao nibs into as fine a powder that a wooden mortar and pestle can produce. Just a little crunchy but good.
With an electric coffee grinder I was able to produce a smoother flavor like these:
These resulted in a finer taste with just a little grainy texture like you would get from eating a chocolate covered espresso bean.
Here is the Raw Chocolate Truffle recipe:
Ingredients:
- 2 ounces of unprocessed raw Cacao Nibs 16oz. (Peeled, Raw/Organic)
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon powder
- 1/4 tsp Chinese 5 spice powder
- 3/4 tsp Acai powder from capsules (optional for the extra antioxidants)
- 1/8 tsp cayenne powder
- 2 tsp agave nectar
- 1.5 to 2 Tbsp of organic virgin coconut oil
How to:
- First grind the cacao 2 tablespoons at a time.
- Mix in the other dry ingredients well by hand
- Add coconut oil and agave and mix and press into a fudgy even color.
- Take a tablespoon of the mix and form into a ball and place on a dish
- Chill in the fridge for 5 minutes and eat.
This yields two days worth of chocolate if you are serious about taking as a supplement.
Thanks for reading and please send any comments or questions about why I do what I do or anything else.
