Qi Gong Mini Post – Saturday Morning
Saturday, March 21, 2009 at 9:51AM Although I practice Qi Gong in the Wuji Short Form almost every morning, I do not post much about it unless I have something happen that really inspires me to tell you.
I woke up really tired this morning although I know I had 7 hours, which is usually enough.
With a deep tiredness in my eyes, I put in my dvd, Qigong Beginning Practice, and thought I will do the exercises very loosely and only concentrate on the positions and breathing without the tension.
In every movement I could feel the Qi energy moving and resting stronger than ever before. I could feel the polarity and energy between my hands and dan tien like never before. Again I was concentrating on movement and breathing; the latter being the most important. I was not paying attention to the energy or the tightening of the muscles.
For you newbie's, Qi is present in your body whether you like it or not or believe in it or not. Our blood is very salty, a lot like the ocean and with any moving system in the ocean like a submarine traveling at 15 knots, it will generate enough electricity to power a town. For us humans the movement of our organs and blood create an electrical current which has polarity. When that polarity is blocked or skewed in any way, it tries to find another way around it, and when it can’t , it makes you sick or worse, creates tumors and other dangerous blockages. When it is flowing and our bodies are in balance ( I won’t explain balance here since that can take a while and is dependent on your point of view) the Qi in our bodies can begin to interact with the polarity and gravity of the earth and moon and the Infinite. If you ask a scientist about push and pull among celestial bodies you can get an understanding that we tiny beings are affected and can effect the world around us.
If it didn’t, surfers like me wouldn’t study the tides to see when we will get the best waves.
Back to what happened this morning. It really made me wonder how our thinking and belief about working out can be skewed in comparison to the animal world.
My workout in Wuji Qi Gong short form is about 1 to 1.25 hrs long as the 18 forms, except the first, last, and finishing positions, are to be done at random. I do this 6 to 7 days per week in the morning and 15 to 20 minutes of yoga at night. What this is doing is making me ready for the ever present instead of some time in the future.
In body building and power lifting I used to set goals based on where I would be 8 weeks from now. But a lion, tiger, gazelle, crane, or monkey can’t work out like that because in the next hour, day or week they are going to attack or be attacked. So they play and perform the same stretches every single day two or three times and rest a lot in between. Ever see a tree full of monkeys?
With my old ways I could be out of commission and not ready for any impact from environment or disease for 3 days until my muscle tears were healed and my immune system back to normal. Sound familiar?
My Corgi’s do the same stretches when they wake up, between naps, and when they go outside. Hmm, interesting what we learn by watching the animals when they are healthy and sick. Robert Ellis Cahill wrote about Native American medicine in New England in the book Curious Customs and Cures (New England's Collectible Classics) and how the Powahee’s or medicine men and women learned by doing what I just mentioned. I have read the book and found a real correlation to Chinese medicine. The book also highlights the absurdity of Western ideas on medicine at the time.
Anyway, it’s time to get the kids to karate.
Thanks for reading!
